The Tektons mentioned by Opus are probably your best bet in the 1K and below category. I've owned the M-Lore (around $700) and it's a solid tube friendly choice that would give you at least a 6 db advantage in efficiency plus added headroom over the SR 71 and the others you've mentioned. On the adventurous side and somewhat outside your budget ($1500) is the Spatial M3. Open baffle design, 95 db efficient, but it's a nominal 4 ohm load. Not sure if the Sherwood is comfortable with a 4 ohm load in this case.
