It is possible to remove the octal bases and have them plated.....
t is also possible to use those pen style plating machines to plate the pins.That being said, I generally find the gold plated pins to be slightly warmer than their original non plated counterparts. Also be careful: in areas with high humidity using the gold plated pin stuff and silver plated sockets can lead to electrolytic interactions, mostly negative.
