Quick and Easy Tube Socket Removal

I've always found it easy to remove octal tube sockets or smaller, either because they are easy to get at, or have long pin extension between the board and body that can easily be cut.

Not this time. These were super low profile 9-pins stuck like a leech on a leg.

I spent 2 hours each, solder sucking and wicking and cutting to remove some deteriorating tube sockets. This is crazy I thought.

Then I had crazy thought myself. If they are crumbling, why not help them along? With "Jurassic Jaws" and squeals of pleasure I spent only a couple minutes each, if that, on 5 more sockets, removing the body material. Now it will be a piece of cake to remove the pins.

It took me longer to write this post!

Of course this won't work with all sockets depending on their age and material make up.

Anyways, I had to share.

Off to de-soldering those pins!

Cheers!
