Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

RE: JJ ECC 803S tubes, any good?

thanks, SET, I was looking to use them as a general purpose 12AX7 tube at a decent price in various vintage amps, like Fisher, Scott, etc. The ones I see now on the AES site are totally different from the ones I got years ago, the new ones have the 12AX7 look and I believe I heard that they are much superior to the older frame grid looking ones. While I do have a selection of tele's, mullards, RCA & Sylvania, and amperexes, I don't have enough to go around so an inexpensive modern is something I would like to consider as well as try out for sound comparisons to my vintage used noted above.
