Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I was going through some of my favorite 12AU7 variants which are the Amperex Heerlen 7316s made in the late 1950s and early sixties , which I consider the only real 7316s along with the ones that are labeled ECC 186 from Heerlen. The stuff being hawked on eBay as 7316 like Tungsram I think is disingenuous.
I came across various other 12AU7s but one pair really stuck out which was a pair of Joint Army Navy JRC 1950 and 51 black glass RCA 12AU7s. The reason I am looking is because I bought a $69 one tube Bravo brand headphone amp. The 7316s are great as usual but the JRC black glass are just as impressive if not more so. Have these tubes got a following? If not I think they should. The bass this little tube makes is phenomenal with really palpable 3 dimensionality and all the effusive audio praise language I can think of. Anybody else know about these, I don't see them often.
