question on RCA black plates.. are they really black?

I ask, because I just received a lot of 12AU7s, several RCAs in the bin, and the plates look more like CARBON or Nickel plates than black.

For instance, the Sylvania black plates are just that, deep black.

But, the RCA plates look almost just like GE/Ken Rad Nickel or Carbon plates.

Does anyone know more about these plates, and are they actually Nickel plates?
