Add the voice coil control issue in and you see why I suggested "sand" power amplification. Mated to a well selected power amp, B&W speakers can sound good.
FWIW, $2700 will buy a new 200 WPC tube/FET hybrid amp that will make quite a few not so efficient speakers, like B&W, "dance". I own an earlier iteration of an AVA hybrid amp and I am PLEASED.
My preference with "Watt Hog" speakers is to use substantial hybrid power amplification fed by high quality tubed preamplification. That keeps the SS in the signal path down to the absolute minimum.
