Hi, at first blush B&W, Magnepan, Wilson, and other speakers of that type seem like audiophile favorites. But as most audiophiles mature and embrace the calling they come to realize that in order to recreate all the subtle nuances of the recorded medium, especially with jazz and vocals, you need sensitive or high efficiency speakers which can easily react to the most minute of signals. And the amps that mate best to this type of speakers are single ended tubed of 5 to 15 watts of power. I suggest you find the speakers first and then get a tube amp of matching power. If you are playing cds, or using an ipod, it is not necessary to get a preamp at first. But if you intend to play vinyl then a phono preamp would be necessary.
Don't be impulsive in your purchases and do some research. Try shopping the classifieds here on the asylum and other forums to find a good deal. good luck, Dak
