Prelim test of Raytheon CK-5755 and the Brimar CV-4035

Finally got around to testing some signal tubes. I used a 1959 5F1 Champ as test bed. IME, these SE Champs show weaknesses and strengths of the input-signal tube, the best (of the amps I own). Played at "12." No tone controls. No stomp boxes. MIM 1999 Telecaster and 1994 Les Paul Standard as input devices.

Raytheon TMBP 5751 (square getter) --- tube in amp's input. Great tone. Clean highs. Rich harmonics. Quiet. By far, one of the best tubes to use as input.

Raytheon black plate JAN-CK 5755. Tube and adapter bought at Parts Connexion. Similar to the Raytheon 5751. Not as good bass. Clean mids and highs. Good harmonics. Quiet.

Brimar CV-4035 with adapter. Very clean mids and highs. Thin in the bass. Even more thin than the 5755. Ok with the LPS and humbuckers, weedy with the Tele and its stock single pole pickups. Not the harmonics of the Raytheon tubes. May work well in hi-fi's, where weak harmonics in not an issue. Tone does sound a lot like some Brimar ECC83 tubes. Thinner tone than comparable British Mullard ECC83.

JJ 5751. New production. Used as comparison. This is a very good tube. Not the bass and clean high extension of the Raytheon tubes. What it does reproduce is a well-balanced tone. Not bass, mid, or high heavy. Not the complex harmonics of the Raytheon tubes. Better than the Brimar.

Best tube for this amp & my ears: Raytheon TMBP 5751. Next is toss-up between JJ 5751 and the Raytheon CK-5755. Last is the Brimar CV-4035. All are good tubes. All prolly can use more break-in time. They are better than most new production 12AX7s.
