Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

Picked up a couple new NOS tubes from the bay. One turned out to be the finest sounding tube in my collection. The other is a pleasant surprise!
The pleasant surprise is a CBS 7025 grey longplate horseshoe getter. Wow. What a sweet, pleasant listenable tube.
The other, or the other two... I scored a matched pair for approx. $75.
They are Hammond organ tubes made by Mullard. I63's with Blackburn codes.
WOW!!!!! Both on the sound, and that I was able to score a couple pristine examples for that price.
The previous best sounding tube in my collection was also a Hammond, this particular one made by Amperex. It is still obviously a super sweet sounding tube, but I guess I must prefer that Mullard sound. Midrange to die for! Not syrupy or dark like I might have imagined. Not at all. But just a beautiful sound. Difficult to describe! You just have to hear it...
Cheers!
Andrew
