I recently changed the driver tubes in my Cronus Magnum (same as the Atlas plus a pre-amp stage, for those unfamiliar with them) after 2 - 2.5 years (about 3500 - 4000 hours) and there was a huge improvement in sound. They were NOS Mullards and I had left them in that long because of how NOS signal tubes are supposed to last 5-6 thousand hours.OTOH I've used NOS Radiotechnique and Mullard 12AU7s in the pre-amp position and in my DAC for over two years without any noticeable deterioration in sound.
So maybe tubes used as drivers don't last as long as other small signal tubes?
I remember Conrad Johnson stating that driver tubes should be changed at the same time as power tubes.
I've tube rolled the 12AX7 phase splitters so much that I don't know how long they last.
