"To be sure, many tube sellers during the 70s and 80s , the ones that put up those Chinese tubes in Westinghouse boxes with deceptive labeling were the worst offenders."A thought came to mind... not sure if a Chinese tube factory cranking out an EL34 and (someone) labeling it "Westinghouse" is much worse than a Russian factory cranking out EL34/KT77/KT88/etc., labeled "Mullard," "Gold Lion," "Tung Sol..." It is also my understanding that in the age of American-made tubes, some tubes were relabeled. I have a pair of "Ken Rad" labeled 6SN7 that I believe were of "GE" manufacture, "Admiral," "Zenith" and other tubes were also relabels, as I understand it.
It's an arcane hobby by now. Yes, the point about the internal construction is valid enough, but no one knows everything, and how many people can we expect to know all about things that happened 30 - 40 years ago?
