So, no. No idea how they sound in that pre, but IMO, there are general characteristics that are pre independent. Some will say you have no idea how it will sound until you put it in THE circuit, and others that say, like me, that a Tele 6922 will exhibit the same general sound characteristics just about anywhere. In reality, I think both camps are correct. I just happen lean the way I do. Having said all that, you may want to look at Joe's Tube Lore in the FAQ section of this site. That is one of the best subjective reviews of a lot of different 6DJ8 types I've ever seen. The bad news is that many of the tubes Joe wrote about are near unobtainium these days. For current stuff, lots of people rave about the Gold Lion 6922. I can't say anything bad about them, but then they don't really excite me either. I rather prefer the JJ 6922 as they sound more like a Tele 6922, (which is my all-around favorite 6922), than any other current manufacture tube. A problem I've had in past with the JJ's is keeping them quiet. They had a tendency to go hissy in my CAT SL1. Lately I've seen and heard evidence that JJ just might have gotten their poop together on quality control so I took delivery of two pairs of matched, low noise, low microphonics premium JJ 6922's last week. They are waiting on me to install them. If they've overcome the tendency to go noisy I may just go back to the well for a bunch more. Delivered price was a little less than $30/tube.
