RE: ARC Ref phono with WE 350B

To tell the whole story would take a small book but in summary I still have the chassis and most of the PSU and am in the process of transferring my (now old) LCR design found in the link below, but with a few new mods.

The first thing I did to the original Ref Phono was to mod the PSU by adding a choke then later redesigning to a shunt reg using different tubes. Over time, a series of things from the removal of FETS and even stages, substituting my own design blocks along the way.

One decent step was using a single 6C45P in the front end instead of 3 parallel 6922 triodes which allowed me to ditch the stepup transformer.

The simplest worthwhile mods you could do is to add a choke and do some tube rolling. The Sovtec 6922s are only average compared to some good NOS. My personal favourites, Siemens Cca are stupidly expensive now but Ruskie 6N23P (Voskhod with the Rocket Label) are cheap and plentiful and in some respects (and therefore in some positions), are close to or even better.

Rolling the rectifier and series reg tubes will also make a difference. I can't remember where I'd got to on that, it was so long ago and I need to revisit. In recent designs I have been using my own simple all-tube reg using a combo of Novosibirsk 6N6P and Reflector Pre 90s 6H30P along with some 60s D getter 6CA4/EZ81 Mullard rectifiers.

This is really condensed and may be info overload but I hope some of it helps.
