...I've found that most power tubes can be checked to get a rough idea of remaining life by testing at reduced filament voltage. A 6.3 V NOS tube will easily meet its gm/emission spec @5V and many do so @4.3V. This is mainly a check of emission and doesn't account for getter life. Also won't provide a hard figure for remaining hours or % of life. A well used tube may surpass min specs by a good margin @6.3V and not meet specs @5V. I've used this method to assess pricey used tubes at hamfests and antique radio meets. Curiously, a lot of current production tubes don't pass the 5V test even when new.
