RE: 8417 reliability

They were used in some 70's/80's guitar amps (SG Systems), and they were not too reliable. They ran high screen voltage, close to plate voltage. I suspect they would have been more dependable with less screen voltage.

I found 6550's to be an acceptable replacement (with rebiasing).
