Still using the Ei KT90. They seem to last forever but I have enough I don't think I will run out even tubing something like the REF300.
The pic I posted is the output stage of a friend's REF600. Each output tube is individually fused in the output stage and the power supply output tubes have a single fuse on their B+ rail. With this series of amps the fuse update is a easy to install.
With amps the size of the REF300, 24 output tubes, or the REF600, 40 output tubes, I want them fused! Screw sonics!!!! Man if a tube goes in amps of this size it can cause some serious damage. Forget about the resistor the power supplies can dump enough energy into a short to fry PCB traces, etc.
If there is some slight loss of transparency I can live with that. If the fuse is chosen carefully and used within its linear range I am skeptical one looses much if anything.
