If you measure the grid voltage with respect to the negative end of the DC filament, then decrease that value by 2.5V, it might look something like:
-58V grid to ground. -2.5V negative filament to ground (let's assume the hum pot is centered), so -60.5V, then decreased (in an absolute sense) by 2.5V gets you back to -58V.
You never said how much more that "more current" was.
