Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

like the RCA 6550's I have to break at the base? I purchased some 6550's some time ago from an inmate (who stated that 1 base was broken) & have used them with the 1 broken base, being careful to insert the tube correctly. Today I thought I would try them again in the Mini Mites, & inserting the one that looked good the base broke off! I lined them up correctly & turned the power on anyway, but 1 of the tubes didn't want/seem to fire up as much as the other so I took them out! Is the base breaking common with old RCA 6550's? These have a metal collar with plastic base! The 1 with the yellow ring in the center is the 1 that just broke!
