In addition to handling heat well, mica loaded phenolic also reduces the amount of vibration transferred to the tube. IMO, that's something to think about when considering ceramic in tube sockets.
Black phenolic, AKA Bakelite, uses carbon black (soot) as the loading agent. Is mica a better loading agent than soot? I find that to be the case.
