Firing up a stored ARC preamp

Question for tube inmates and connoisseurs. A friend needs to sell off some high-end gear, which includes an Audio Research Reference 1 preamp. It's been stored (boxed) since 2007, a lot of that time being in a hot garage. I.e., it hasn't been turned on for seven years. It was working as of that time.

Here's the ARC:

Tube complement consists of eight 6922s or equivalent. My feeling is that the safe thing, if only because of the caps, is to plug this into a variac or perhaps a poor-man's variac. OTOH, seven years isn't that terribly long a time. Anyway, we (or he) needs to test this before it can be sold, and it would be handy if it didn't have to go into a shop for that.

I can probably advise him on how to use the poor-man's variac (PMV). He's at a distance from me.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Steve.
