That's the synergy of the amp and which tubes it reacts to best.When you said you like the three hole Tungsols better than the solid black plate ones,your black plates may be old and not matched as well as the three hole ones are and that could be the difference or,the three hole versions and the Psvanes might be a more conducive match for that particular amp.
