Misunderstanding here.

Guys
When I posted Byrd's statement to respond to him,I was speaking in general terms, not really about any amp in particular.I was simply stating in my response that I know that feeling all too well about certain amps hurting your ears..I know how it looked now that read it over.
I own 14 dyna St70s and when you beef up the power-supply with the stock driver circuitry,it performs rather nicely.I put in those power supply boards with the Panasonic ED caps and the Schottky bias supply to keep the original architecture.
One of my favorite amps is the ST70 with the VTA board done up with a film cap supply on the HV and a combo silver mica and pio couplers. The Triode EF86 board is another gem based on the original mullard circuitry.
The Dynaco St70 is a nice sounding amp but need a little stiffer power supply..Only a handful of my ST-70s are modded. The biggest problem is that the original power trafo is just too small..The later iterations were about 30% larger..The other problems of course are the lack of filtering and to be honest, the GZ34 doesn't belong in there by itself.
The circuit draws over 240ma and the GZ34 is only rated to 250ma so you are on the edge..
Bob Latino does the ST-70 like it should be done..He designed some nice iron for it and has it built to his specs and I ran a 10 KHZ sq thru the transformer and it was very clean. Several friends bought them and they love them very much.
