Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

I think I got these puppies figured out ...

Suppose you were one of those for whom single-ended flea powered power amplifier sound was the be all end all. You know the type that is completely oblivious to the complaints such as for example that the very high end is practically missing in action, or that the low end lacks extension and definition. Such things would be like water of a duck's, you having long been addicted to those "magic mids" and moments of "hyper-realism" to the point where anything else is simply a false and evil construct to be scorned and rejected.

Now further suppose that one dark day you woke up to find your flee-powered amp and high efficiency speakers has been replaced by a massive solid state amplifier teamed up with medium or low efficiency speakers that you'd be forced to live with it forever. The only thing you had power to change was your preamp, nothing else.

Well then you could go out and get a preamp that takes a single pair of 6922/6DJ8 tubes and pop a pair these Amperex PQ A-Frames in place. Then, perhaps with the benefit of a little, or a lot, depending upon the degree of your affliction, of some hallucinatory drug, you'd be back in single-ended flea powered sound La-La Land.

That's what I think of those tubes; and as correctly predicted, they're not for me.

[Hint to self: Put em' away and avoid further exposure, it's a slippery slope Bro', slip over the edge and you'll likely never crawl out.]
