Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

I would say the McShane rebuild but that is so much more than a basic tweak so

The one tweak I would say is the best bang for the buck by far is right here.. I'm not one to get taken in by snake oil and neither is the friend of mine that sent me this stuff to try. He said just put it on your RCA jacks and cables, and speaker jacks, and tube pins if you want, but do it very very lightly to where you can just barely see it because it's very conductive..He then said, wait a day or two and tell me what you think. I put it on the RCA input jacks on the center conductor and the outer part as well, and on my inner link cables and my speaker cables and terminal strips or banana jacks..After about a day and a half, the differences I was hearing were unbelievable..Everything improved from frequency response, to imaging, to transient energy and it made no sense why. I used a pair of Heathkit W5ms as the test mule as I had two pair rebuilt the identical way..

I then took measurements of the same pair of amps I treated with the SiLClear vs the other pair without the SilClear but using the same tubes in both sets of amps. The treated amps had made 1.7 watts additional power and extended 2.7khz further than they untreated pair and THD was very close in both amps but I bet harmonic distortion would have displayed a difference on the spectrum analyzer which I didn't hook up.

I then listened to the other pair with the same type cables but untreated..The treated pair was cleaner, more involving ,and just seemed to have more transient energy.I then treated the second pair of amps and cables and again,it just sounded better.

I called my Chemist friend at Dow Chemical and he invited me to lunch and had me bring a new pair of cables and some SilClear but before we put it on the cable ends,he had me look at the ends of the cables under a very powerful microscope. My new Goertz cable ends and my old straight wire Maestro ends looked like the GrandCanyon...We then brushed the SilClear on the cables and went to lunch and came back a couple hours later. When we looked thru the microscope at the treated cable ends, they looked at least 70% percent better..

He said Mikey,do understand what is going on here? You have micro arcing where you have slip on connections from the imperfections of the metal surfaces and the gel we put on which is the SilClear, filled in those imperfections quite a bit therefore cutting down on micro arcing and giving you much better performance ...The stuff is very conductive but it works incredibly well.
I brushed it in the tube sockets but very sparingly and it worked well there to.
