The EH 6922 is warm. And it's fine. So when NOS dries up we can all still be happy. Look at the facts and the tubes. It's a Reflektor 6n23. I don't blame New Sensor for increasing the price if they can. Why didn't they just improve the tube? Why did they have to wait until they registered a brand and trademark that virtually anybody could have gotten for free if they would have though of it?
My take is this: I have been around the block with people saying they made it like this, they copied this, etc. That company Tube Amp Doctor says they have a special designed 5881 STR, which they copied from the classic black plate RCA 5881. No sh*t. They copied it. Wow. From what? RCA never made a 5881, and 5881's don't have black plates. On top of that, I will bet anybody that their "special" 5881 is just a tube they get labeled.
The Russian tubes are an incredible gift. Super dependable, long lasting, and good sound. But I call it the way I see it. One of my favorite 6SN7? Cheap-o Chinese. And I really love the Chinese KT88, though I can't trust them.
I have a great test bed here. The Cary SLI-80 integrated amp. It brings out the differences in E88CC types. I am most happy to have a couple guys from Los Angeles area come out here and we can do a blind test. I have a heating rack to keep the tubes hot. We make sure that the tubes test the same. Level matched playing the same material.
I sell Gold Lion and my customers like them. It's a nice step up from EH tubes for not a lot of money.
