Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

RE: Sounds and measures exactly like the EH 6922 to me

I disagree. A LOT of tubes look alike, but we don't know about the internal materials, the cathode melt, production tolerances, etc. Cathodes, grids, and plates are not necessarily made of the same materials from one tube to the next! If you want to know what is different ask Mike Matthews or one of his people. They likely won't say - any more than asking RCA for the formula of their cathode melt back when they were making tubes would have met with success.

My customers and many others here find the tube to have a much warmer presentation than the EH. I don't believe I have ever seen a post saying the EH and Genalex sounded identical.

The gold plating is good quality, and it makes the tube pins dimensionally almost identical to the older US and western European pin diameters. It does indeed improve contact in sockets where there is some wear. And other than cyanide and a few other materials rarely found in the home environment such as fluorine or bromine, gold is non-reactive. So the gold plating is not going to react with other materials found in audio gear.

If you don't like the name on the tubes that's your prerogative. I prefer to see the great old brand names (not only of tubes, but of so many other products as well!) remain part of history too.
