I agree with you here, for the most part. I did believe the PQ was premium quality, but premium as to what? They are usually better than the ECC88, but that is not saying all that much really.
I think the JAN and USN-CEP are much the same as the PQ, which, as you said, are the commercial tubes. I also think the white label and orange label are better than the green label, or the tubes from the 60s are best. There are other brand names for these same tubes, like Philips and Valvo, all the same, when they are made by Amperex. I really do not hear any real difference in the “D” getter over the large hallo?
The pinched waist thing, I do not know, I thought it was a press flaw? How they sound I do not know, as I never had any.
The Siemens, with the ‘H’ and “S” across it, the A frame type, they are very good sounding. Both, E88CC and E188CC, these are very good when they were made in the 60s. I also never had the CCa tubes.
Mullard are also good sounding to me; the RTC used to be cheaper, same tube, just less cost.
I have 11 of these tubes and four Siemens not used.
I like ARC, the models that use these tubes. One thing I will say is if you plan to use Siemens with another 6DJ8 type, I think Amperex would be the better choice than Mullard, not that I think they sound better, I think they are made stronger.
