Mikey,
True that, yet if tubeophiles were more inclined to study up on should things - like knowing NOS Boxes in regards to their color pallets or even the texture of the paper according to its age, should be enough to raise a red flag it you will.
There's no harm in saying certain cultures are good at copying the lettering on tubes, nor producing legitimate looking boxes - yet common sense should say that a box from say 1950 or 1965 should have signs of wear and tear - at least some form of discoloration going on, should it not?.
The pricing of tubes - fake or Used OS has gotten a bit crazy of late, as it seem no one wants to be honest and just admit to themselves their tubes are used - and charge accordingly - I lost a friend ( so-called it seems ) because he had listed a buch of Amperex - Brimar and Mullard 12AX7s NOS 1955/58 vintages on eBay claiming his reserve was $600 for something like 26 tubes, so I told him I'd buy them, so he canceled the ad - but when it came time to get the tubes from him........., all of a sudden he has a box full of single 12AU7s which weren't even listed and not a 12AX7 in sight, and on top of that was saying I'd get 25% off their normal price that he had paid at Brent Jesse's when it was obvious to me the tubes in question weren't new to begin with - hence we fell out and haven't spoken since.
In reality - real friends don't try to fuck over one another - if you'd excuse my tone.
Regards,
O_oh
