Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

RE: 6n3cE=6L6gc=5881?

Have you ever compared the two??? I have used the 6P3S-E in a custom switchable SET/ UL/ SEP amp and in Niteshade NS-10, Niteshade NS-30 tube rectified and a Niteshade NS-30 SS rectified amps

The 6P3S-E's are definitely hyped on AA and they are an excellent tube no doubt. I found/ tried them by accident long before they were the rage on AA. But, when I put the 6L6WXT in these same amps recently you hear the 6P3S-E has some short comings.

In fact, read through some 6P3S-E archive posts and you will see references to the 6P3S-E tube sounding rolled off and the tube having some congestion to some people. I hear that too at times but I still really like them. However, the 6L6WXT's I have used (build date 3/10) don't have those flaws and I think they are a superior tube top to bottom.

All those choice 70's and 80's 6P3S-E's have virtually disappeared. Check Jim McShane's website .... he is almost out and there aren't anymore. That is why I recommended the 6L6WXT as an alternative. But, from what I hear the 6L6WXT tube is an even better choice.
