I think Eli's suggestion might have to be considered if it does not work. Because, not only is there a bit of static but there is a slight volume miss match on the left and right channels until you move past say "4" which is quite loud for my room. There may be worn groves or something there on the contacts. So I am not sure if the silicone will cure both of those problems but it's more or less a "free play"
