Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
In rolling a bunch of 12AX7s, I have preferred the Mullards. I have a lot of nice stuff including the RCA black plate, Phillips 5751', GE 5 Star 5751s, but none are as good as the Mullard to my ears. This is my preference one all 4 amps I own.
My question is, what sounds closest to a a mullard? I like the PSVANE T11 quite a bit as well and would give those a close second place. Is there another tube that has that soft side of neutral characteristic that I am enjoying in the Mullards?
I also quite liked the Mullard EL34s I tried, they were quite nice as well. Smooth but full of detail. I wonder what they do that gives their tubes this sound?
