Slow warm-up and the characteristic voltage drop of the GZ34/5AR4 is important. You can't make the rectifier too stout, it need a little drop or sag. A Fender amps that uses two 6L6GC's sound completely different whether the amps has solid-state or GZ34 recitification.This is one of the big components of the Holy blackface AB763 circuit (like BF Super Reverb). Versus the tone from the solid-state rectified Bandmaster AB763 circuit.
