Good luck is right!
Not that anyone would ever claim the Ampeg SVT was a particularly good design but at least it sounded good, as long as it was paired with the 8x10 cabinet, whose low-end response limit was even higher than the SVT head. The SVT head started to poop out about 40 Hz, but the 4 pair of 10s in their sealed boxes pooped out about 60 Hz. But synergy is synergy, and a P-bass into an SVT with the 8x10 really rocks out. Not because it would thump, but the amp and cabinet response was tuned high enough so it would cut through the mix in a live situation and not waste power it didn't have trying to reproduce E-string fundamentals. Or fight with the bass drum.
The 400PS?
All the self-immolation tendencies of the old SVT without the good sound...
The reason you don't see 1977 Ford Granadas at the Barrett-Jackson auto auctions is the reason you don't see anyone wanting to buy a 400PS today.
Sorry, but it's waste of perfectly good tubes trying to do anything with a 400PS. And there's no heritage - It's not like Leo and George designed it or anything. Send the 400PS to the landfill, where they belong.
