RE: one tube of four appears "dimmer" in amp

Jim is correct, USUALLY it is just the way the tube is made, but I would still check further - there is possibility of poor contact in filament circuit.

Swap two tube position, and see if the same tube remains dimmer in another slot. If so, then don't worry. If the problem is related to the particular tube socket, then further troubleshooting is in order.
