Next to the Brimar is the CBS/Hytron 5814- one can try the Hytron if the Brimar does not produce a synergy in your equipment.
The Brimar produces clear & musical sonics that has less of the irritating distortion of other 12AU7s. That is the reason I use the Brimar as I find distortion or sometimes called warm unsuitable as my 2A3 SE tube amps plus speakers do not hide anything.
I usualy replace 12AU7s with E80CC or a 6SN7 with a DIY socket adapter when I have both the height & extra filament current available. I do not have a 12AU7 or 13D5 in use anywhere at this time.
