There is more reasons why they developed the EL34..They wanted a slim profile tube that could make the power of the EL37 yet was easy to drive and simple to build..If you look at the EL37,you will see its quite a work of art and its also a 6L6gc in British form.I don't know if mullard paid RCA royalities but I would imagine they got around it as it looked nothing like a 6L6 or 807 type tube.
That 6N3C-e is such a marvel of a tube and being its built for military,it can withstand lots of vibration and jarring..I literally dropped one on part of the cement floor in my basement and it bounced and still worked perfect with no sign of shaking elements.It hit the base of the tube first and bounced on to the carpet.
If the power supply waveform isn't pretty,neither is the sound in most cases.
