I'm only going on my personal experience and what I read, but: k-40 is good for coupling and other uses. K42 is only for power supply bypass: http://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/t.mpl?f=tubediy&m=141028 . Ultimately, you need to evaluate yourself in your gear.
