Photo: 4- Raytheon 12AT7WA triple mica, black plate, halo getter
Frihed89,
Yes, I'd heard good things about the Raytheon 12AT7WA triple mica and WB and ended up buying several of these - very reasonable NOS ($8-10 in 2006)as I think they don't have a glamourous reputation. Notice they have inclined halo getters mounted right down on the upper mica instead of supports- probably less prone to vibration.
I only had a short time trying these in my usual 12AT7 test gear- an all-tube microphone preamp (6-12AX7, 2-12AT7) and I found this Raytheon to be a great 12AT7- quite strong and neutral, very quiet, with tight tranparent bass. I should think these would be great in vintage gear that tends towards sluggishness. I would place these well above the GE 6201 in terms of refined sound and in some ways and in some gear probably I'd like these more than the Sylvania GB 6201- which is a nice one- as well. Definitely worth trying, especially if they haven't been "discovered" and the prices are so reasonable.
Cheers,
Bambi B
