You have to realize that most of the industry professionals are totally desensitized to the word "matched" and they may not understand your frustration as a consumer. It's probably best to let it go and move on. At least now you know that the word "matched" means only certain parameters were matched, and only under very specific testing conditions. That "matched" data may or may not be useful to you as a consumer. As usual, live and learn.
To be fair to the industry professional, you can easily grab a new set of "matched" devices and still have a very hard time trying to get the pair to work properly with certain circuits. I've had that problem many times with solid state amplifiers and "matched" transistors. These things happen. So many circuits, so many parameters.
If it makes you feel any better, "matching" also applies to capacitors, resistors, speaker drivers, and probably anything else you can think of that would benefit from the word "matching". It's possible to run into the same levels of frustration in those arenas too. In other words, yes Virginia, matching is bullshit. But it's better than not trying to collect any data at all.
Onward and upward.
