Hi
If you changed the coupling caps in that unit from the originals and had gone to polys or anything other than the wax paper caps that were in the unit,its going to change the sound of it dramatically more than the tubes will.The tube change is no big deal other than the 6u8/6gh8.
That little stromberg is one of the best sounding el84 amps of all time and to look at them you wouldnt think it was a good sounding amp but once you hear them,WOWWWWWW!!!!.
If he just changed filter caps that would be good but if he changed out the couplers to a plastic type in the amp,its not going to have that stage presence or the smoothness on the top end you once had.
I have one here that I did with orange drops back in the day and had I just put a few in,the amp would sound fine but I changed all the caps to orange drops 12 years ago but I will change them out to gudeman pios and some k40s.

It doesn't matter how you stir
