Remember... to get a mere 3dB more output, you need to double the amp's power. The difference in watts you'd get from going from an EL34 to a KT77 or 6CA7 would be a couple watts at best (depending on the amp it may not add any additional watts). That increase in power by itself is really not very audible.

What you'd be hearing would have more to do with color. The KT77s might have the appearance of more "power" because they're a smidge punchier tube. Certainly the current production offerings of the 6CA7 or KT77 from New Sensor and JJ are not super expensive... so if you like the change then cool. If not, keep em around... they may make sense if you change something else in your system.
