You have correctly described this particular tube's characteristic trait in sound, as being bright, slightly edgy, dynamic and loud. I believe these were the very last of the good Amperex gold-pinned 7308 tubes to have been manufactured in USA.

For 7308 tubes manufactured in Hicksville, NY, I much prefer the very first VR0 series having a d-getter made in 1960, which offer far more refinement, resolution, musicality with the same level of authoritative dynamics. Finding these particular tubes is practically impossible.

If you prefer the sound of Amperex 7308 tubes made in USA, I suggest you alternatively seek some VR3 1961 7308 tubes made in Hicksville, NY (symbolised with an asterisk symbol on the second line of the manufacturing date code).

My personal preference is for VR0 tubes having a d-getter made in Heerlen, Holland, when it comes to the best of the best in the 7308/E188CC series.

From my own extensive tube rolling experiences over the past year, no E188CC/7308 tube competes with the 7L0, 7L1, 7L2 or 7L3 E88CC/6922 pinched waist d-getter series made by Philips in Heerlen and Eindhoven, Holland. The 1956 Eindhoven 7L0 and 7L1 series, having gold grid posts, are my personal favourites.
