In a "normal" RIAA stage using a 12AX7 or similar dual triode as two cascaded single-ended amplifiers, there is no need for matching. However, selection for low noise, low hum, and low microphonics is quite useful for stages operating at low signal levels, such as phono inputs or microphone preamps.
