Try a GE 5 Star instead of the stock tube. I did not like the WE396A. I have tired a lot of tubes including the Red Bank 6385 and bought a dozen of the GE 5 Star's. Then change the coupling caps to whatever flavor you like best. I used OIMP V caps. For reasons unknown, I put a Jensen copper PIO .22uf 630V in position C 11 and am very pleased with the result.

This DAC is very sensitve to transports. Reference Audio Mods has an opamp module with a power supply that looks very intersing. I am going to call them and inquire about it.
