AE isnt a brand usually associated with low powered SE amps. Depending on the size of your room you could go with Klipsh bookshelf speaks or since you already (I presume) a DIY man, you could build a speaker from Doc B's site.You may need to up what you re willing to spend if you want a full range pair of speakers with a 5 watt SET. I myself am awaiting the arrival of Kochel 200, if I m not wrong about the model no., a two way
horn loaded floor stander whose footprint per speaker is about the size of an LP, and hope to fit them in a 12 by 10 room. They sounded simply amazing driven by Cary 2a3 5 watt amps! It was a "no brainer" to finally decide onthe Kochels :)BUT- These Kochels exceed my budget by several *thousand* dollars! There will be a way to pay for them because the need is there. Save the money...etc...
PS*(You could go out and buy US$300 Ion 1 LothX speakers, but I personally will _*never*_ recommend the brand to anyone. I see the manufacturer every time I go to the Adelphi (THE high end shopping centre here in Singapore where 90% of all high end retailers park their wares), and cannot even get a home trial done decently with full
payment up front. I wanted a home trial for a pair of used Ion4s they wanted to sell me without informing me they were 2nd hand...and if you knew this Singapore brand, you'd know that the ion series of speaks have serious cabinet resonance problems, bass overhang and even cabinet rattles....they have about...I don t know, anywhere from a year to five years of R and D left to do on their designs, and I m not sure whether that will happen, given the arrogance of the designer)I wanted a home trial cos I basically was desperate for appropriate speakers, and the Kochels havent arrived at the local dealer's showroom yet.
