My thoughts on the new Genelex reissue KT88

First I want to say I have never been overly excited about any New Sensor products other than the nice neat assembly and finish of the tubes they make ..I have several quads of the TS 6550 reissue and while they are a nice tube,they by no means rival the original 3 hole version not to mention the solid gray and black plate versions which to me are the finest sounding 6550 ever made period.
Now comes the new genelex kt88...The first hours of use I was very upset as the lettering was fading with just a couple hours use.I called Mike Matthews and he is aware of the problem and they are working on it but he assured me in no way does it affect performance and he even offered to exchange them but the same thing will happen again for now.
Anyway after about 60 hours on the tubes in the upgraded mc60s,this tube is far and above the best beam pentode new sensor ever made and the sonic topology is perfect from top to bottom.It doesnt give up anywhere which is suprising and its very accurate and it doesnt have fat or unecessary bloating that would cause coloration.It has a very smooth and 3 dimensional response and it images very well in all parts of the spectrum..I only tried it in the mc60s so far and I will now try it in the citation 2.
If you liked the early kt90s that you can no longer get,this tube should pretty much satisfy your sonic appetite for that type of sound as its very similar in many ways..They do require break in and I was always fond of the shuggie solid plate but this will run with it and I would say it beats it most definitely..It DOES NOT sound like any EH or tungsol reissue and they really did their homework on this tube.Now if they can produce a kt66 and 6L6gc like this,I will as happy as a pig in slop.
