Thanks for the suggestion. I had the E-H 6CA7 in mind when I change out the EL34s.

However, let me say that the E-H EL34 in my AES Sixpac do NOT lack any edge for guitar & brass sound! In fact, they have quite a bite (if it's on the recording). Depends on how the amp was designed - some were designed to take EL34s as the primary tube (like the Sixpac) while others were designed to take 6CA7 or 6L6 as the primary. The biasing of the amp was done by the designer w/ the primary tube type in mind hence all other tubes might not sound as good. Hence, 6CA7 sounding good in your amp does NOT mean it will sound as good in another tube amp. This is consistent w/ my experience as well as with many others'.
