I am a true JJ E34L devotee for most purposes - that was true until I bought some new amps with the EH 6CA7s. They are potent< the amps aren't wimpy with very big trannies. You put in an EL34 it sounds like you took half the power away. The EH 6CA7 and the KT77 are true tetrodes while the EL 34 wich is a drop in sub is a pentode, they alsways say "Beam Pentode".
I know a few musicians who play electric guitar and the desirable quality is "break up" a controlled distortion I'm told. I don't know if the EH 6CA7 will do that easily. I have not been able to clip the amps with 80wpc into regular cone speakers. I was playing them around 95 db yesterday no distortion. I really don't want to blow a tweeter so I don't think I'll go for 100+, but I am tempted to find the limit.
