If any of you like the sound of the EL34 but would like a tube closer in sound to the 6L6, try the E-H 6CA7. It is a fantastic tube in my opinion and is reportedly quite rugged to boot.
I like the EL34s I've tried in my Rogue Atlas but find them to be lacking a little in edge with brass and guitars. I love the 6L6 sound and the 6CA7 is similar. It's also a very quiet tube, at least in my system.
Matched quads range from $50 to $60 depending upon the source.
